On Wednesday, November 11th, we invite you to the SOKÓŁ Cinema in Nowy Sącz for Polish Cinema Day – a nationwide initiative of the Arthouse Cinema Association, organized to celebrate Independence Day. Tickets for all Polish films are available at a promotional price of 17 PLN.
Polish Cinema Day is an excellent opportunity to celebrate independence through an encounter with Polish film. The event aims to popularize Polish filmmaking, emphasize the importance of Polish cinema in building national identity, and encourage audiences to support Polish culture. Among the Polish productions screened that day, we particularly recommend:
Through the Wall – Pre-premierePoland 2026, 120', drama, ages 15 and up, November 11th, 4:15 PM. Winner of this year's Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. "Through the Wall" is a true story. In 1947, 27-year-old Wiesława Pajdak is arrested and sent to the communist prison on Rakowiecka Street. A few days later, 27-year-old Jerzy Śmiechowski is sent to the same prison. One night, they begin a conversation through the wall using Morse code. Although it's hard to believe, the young couple falls in love. Six years after meeting, they see each other "in person" for the first time during their prison wedding. After their release, they live happily together for 55 years. This is the story of an extraordinary meeting and the love that saved them both.

But this grand idea also comes with a huge price: moments of intense intimacy are intertwined with years of separation, separated by prison bars. The outbreak of martial law forces them to make decisions no one else would want to make. Can love prevail in such terribly difficult times?
