The starting point for this meeting will be the book "Venice: Faces of a City on Water," in which the authors uncover lesser-known, often surprising, stories of the famous lagoon city. We'll discover why Venice gave the world the terms "ghetto" and "quarantine," what Dante, Casanova, and Vivaldi have to do with its history, and why the portrait of one of Venice's doges was painted black. We'll also hear stories about everyday life in a city built on water. How was Venice founded and how has it functioned for centuries without traditional streets? How do its residents manage transportation, deliveries, and daily chores? And how is mass tourism changing the face of this unique place today? The event will take place on November 9, 2026 (Monday) at 5:00 p.m. in the reading room of the Main Library at 11 Franciszkańska Street (1st floor). We invite you to a meeting full of interesting stories, historical puzzles, and travel discoveries that will allow you to look at Venice from a completely new perspective. The event will be held as part of the "Literature Without Borders" project, co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund._________________________________
